Lunch

Well, my life's gotten busier. I'm now at school & work from either 8:30 or 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 or 6:00 P.M. almost every day. It's been strange to be gone for that long at a time from home, and I'm understanding more why it's so tempting to go out to lunch, but so much better to pack a meal for the in-between times. What are some easy ideas for meals-to-go? I've been eating burritos and sandwiches, and was wondering if you all had any alternatives. Thanks in advance!

It all depends on if you can use a microwave...

Yeah, I usually have ready access to a fridge and a microwave.

Better late than never...

A few decent (and cheap) options include a Banquet chicken pot pie ($.50 @ Walmart) or a Michelina's TV dinner ($1). There are some good Michelina meals, and some not so good (they aren't exactly a smorgasbord of delight, but they are good at tiding you over until dinner). My favorites include the Fettucine Alfredo with chicken and broccoli; Penne pasta with chicken; lean gourmet Roasted Sirloin Supreme; "Signature" BBQ chicken with garlic mashed potatoes, and Signature Shrimp Alfredo. The Signatures are $1.50, as they are a bit more "fancy" if that's what you want to call it.

Or you can go really, really cheap, and have a Cup-O-Noodles, if you want "the Gobi desert of nutrition" as Derek says. If you don't like any of these options, you should make bigger meals at dinner, and eat leftovers at work.

If you still aren't happy, buy Campbell's Select or Chunky soups- often I can price match them for $1, and they are pretty filling. Katie and I both really like the Smoked Chicken with roasted corn chowder. Mmm. And when you HAVE to have pizza, go to Papa Murphy's, get a large for $5 (it really is large!) and bake it at home. Sometimes you can get coupons from Murphy's in the mail that offer breadsticks and cookie dough for $.10 each, so you could easily walk with a biiig meal for 4 people for $6 or less, dessert included.

If you STILL aren't happy, go hungry, you sorry little ingrate!! :)
